Great places to get a real taste of Red Lodge!

Bridge Creek Backcountry Kitchen & Wine Bar |
|
| Bridge Creek, a picturesque stream that flows into the Boulder River, is a special place to Anne & Peter Christ for at least two reasons. It's the place where they were engaged, and it's the place that lends its name to their business: Bridge Creek Backcountry Kitchen & Wine Bar. "Our favorite spot was a small footbridge that straddled the creek," explains Peter. "In fact, we were standing on that Bridge when I proposed. So when we decided to open our own restaurant, we knew it just had to be named Bridge Creek."
The challenge was to create a restaurant that was a special place for its patrons, just as the original Bridge Creek is a special place for the Christs. To do that, they started with a menu that ties the restaurant to its Red Lodge setting by designing a menu filled with items Peter dubs "Mountain Cuisine." The keys are freshness and simplicity; all items are prepared to enhance the flavor of key ingredients, not smother them. Importantly, many of those ingredients are from local sources, including fresh trout, locally-grown produce, Montana micro brews, and Montana-raised beef. The restaurant also takes extra effort to make its meals transcend the ordinary; all seafood is flown in fresh from the coasts, and items that might not otherwise be found on Montana menus are specially ordered.

Old Piney Dell |
|
Old Piney Dell Restaurant and Bar has long been one of the Red Lodge area's favorite spots for a special evening. Its rustic charm lies in the warm, cozy atmosphere, and its beautiful setting on the banks of Rock Creek.
The present Old Piney Dell Restaurant evolved from a Homesteader´s Cabin built in the 1920s which still forms the entry way and part of the kitchen. In the early 1930s the former mayor of Red Lodge, “Doc” Seigfriedt, built the Piney Dell Lodge. According to the book, Red Lodge, Saga of a Western Area, Seigfriedt encouraged the use of Piney Dell by various ethnic groups in Red Lodge as a community and cultural center for music and dance from the old countries. It was the place to go in Red Lodge until it was razed a few years later. It was first opened as a restaurant in the early 1940s. Various changes in ownership have added rooms here and there but from the days as a Dude Ranch with rustic cabins and horses, Old Piney Dell has maintained a true taste of history.
